Faith Statement
Hull Christian School’s Faith Statement
As employees of Hull Christian School, we promise that:
●We have and will continue to develop a living and active faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
●We believe that the Bible is God’s Word, His special revelation to us. God’s Word shows us His
redemptive plan and is also our infallible guide for our faith and life.
●We will be active members in a local church.
●We believe that the creeds and confessions in the Reformed tradition are a faithful reflection of the doctrines that proceed from God’s Word. (Apostles’ Creed, Nicene Creed, Athanasian Creed, Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, and Canons of Dort)
●We will strive to integrate a Reformed Perspective on Education in my teachings and/or responsibilities as well as in any other way that we can be a positive influence in the lives of God’s covenant children.
Reformed Perspective on Education
A Reformed Perspective of education has its roots in the Protestant Reformation.
It shares many common beliefs with other Christians, but the Reformed faith also has a unique accent among other Christian faith traditions.
A Reformed accent includes some of the following emphases:
● God is a covenant God. Just as He entered into a covenant with Abraham, so He enters into a covenant with us to be a God to us and to our children. He forgives our sins through His Son, Jesus Christ, renews us through the Holy Spirit, and gives us eternal life. Our part of the covenant is to live in obedient thankfulness. We are to care for His Creation, share the Good News of salvation, act as His agents of mercy towards others, as well as prepare our children to do the same.
●God reveals Himself through the Bible (Special Revelation) and through His creation (General Revelation). The Bible serves not only to inform us about God, but also reveals his redemptive story of Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Consummation.
●Since the fall of Adam and Eve, all people and all things in Creation were corrupted by sin. Through the saving work of Jesus Christ, God not only redeems His people, but He is also actively working to restore and renew Creation to its original good and pure state. This work has begun through Jesus’ death and resurrection and will be completed when Jesus Christ comes again and all things will be made new.
● We can see that the universe is God’s handiwork. He is sovereign and continues to providentially sustain all things. For that reason, we need to study all aspects of what God has made. In every area of the school’s curriculum we teach God’s claim over all parts of creation, society, and our lives.
●The purpose of Christian education is to equip covenant children to be faithful members of the Body of Believers, as well as be productive citizens in society. Christian education teaches students to faithfully engage the world, not to shelter them from it.
●We are called to love God above all and our neighbor as ourselves. As members of a covenant community, we strive to support and demonstrate a Christ-like love for one another and teach our students to do likewise.
