Dear Family,
I am excited to be your child’s kindergarten teacher this year. Mrs. Carol Rozeboom will also be assisting in the kindergarten room, and she is excited as well. She will start off coming for the whole kindergarten day. As the year goes on and the students become more independent, Mrs. Rozeboom will assist for a shorter time period during the day. We have 21 students in our class: 10 girls and 11 boys.
The kindergarten class has a year full of exciting events. Each month I will send home a calendar highlighting the events of the kindergarten class. You may fill in additional events as they come up, if you would like. I have attached the August and September calendars, the star student schedule, and your child’s first Bible memory work. Please read through these sheets, and let me know if you have any questions.
The kindergarten class will have library every Wednesday. At this time, the students may check out books. Library books may be returned any kindergarten day of the week. Please note that there is no fee for overdue books, but students are not allowed to check out new books if they have overdue books at home. Every Wednesday the kindergartners will have physical education class. Please dress your child in comfortable clothes and running/tennis shoes to be worn in the gym on Wednesdays. White bottomed shoes are preferred, so no black marks will be made on the gym floor.
Show and tell is usually scheduled for every Friday in kindergarten. You will need to look on the monthly calendar to see what your child may bring. For example, on Friday, Sept. 3, your child may bring a bug in a clear container. The students may choose to bring show and tell once a week or they may choose to share 1 or 2 times a month.
In kindergarten we do not have a scheduled snack time. But, students are welcome to bring a snack, if they want, for recess time. After each of our 3 recesses, we do take drinks at the water fountain. If there are hot days at the beginning of the school year and your child would like to take a water bottle for the classroom, they are allowed to do so.
This year’s chapel theme is “Putting on the Armor of God.” Once a month the kindergartners will attend the theme chapel which will focus on one of the pieces of armor. Other chapels will be periodically scheduled for a special speaker, missionary, or singing group.
Your child may qualify to work with Mrs. Linda Kroeze either for resource or enrichment. Math enrichment will be on Mondays at 11:00 and reading enrichment will be at 11:00 on Wednesdays. Resource room times have not yet been set. If your child qualifies for either of these services, you will be contacted, and we will need your signature to have your child enter either program.
Please note: we will have kindergarten on 3 Thursdays this year. Hull Christian will be having 11:55 dismissals on 3 Fridays due to afternoon faculty in-services at Dordt. Preschool and kindergarten have decided to have class on Thursdays during these weeks and no school on Friday morning. The Thursday dates in which the kindergartners will meet are as follows: Sept. 16, Jan. 21, & March 11. Bus drivers will be notified, but your personal reminder to the bus driver that week may be a good idea.
Our first field trip is scheduled for Friday, August 27. We will be taking a bus across town to Larry Hoekstra’s residence. He has invited us to his place to teach us about gardening and pond life. We will be able to pick grapes off of his vines and apples from his apple trees. We may even take turns fishing! We will leave HSC at 1:00 and return around 2:00.
Please take time to check out the kindergarten web page. To visit this site, go to www.hullchristian.com. Next, click on Staff & + and then you may click on my name and/or the kindergarten pages below my name. This site will include the current star student’s picture along with the star student schedule, the monthly newsletter, the monthly calendar, the Bible memory work, a slide show of pictures, sight words, and kindergarten educational links. Just a reminder: I will only use the first names of the students on our web site. Also, I realize that some of you may not have access to the internet, and I will be sure to print out and send home all the newsletters, calendars, and Bible memory work.
For First Time Hull Christian Parents: You will all receive the name of a family that you will be “adopted by.”(Circle assigns these.) Please use your family, and feel free to ask them questions. For example, if you want to know more about the Rally Day Sale coming up in September, don’t hesitate to give them a call. Also, if there is hot weather in the next couple of weeks, make sure you check your email or listen to the radio (KDCR, KTSB, or KIWA) for possible early dismissals. We always dismiss 5 minutes before Western. One additional thing to note: in late September all HCS families will receive a parent handbook detailing school regulations, class lists, family names & addresses, and circle committees. Moms: if you would like to sign up for which circle committees you would like to be on, be sure to attend the first circle meeting (Dads are welcome to attend, too.) For example, you may want to sign up for working at the soup supper and having a table at the Hostess Supper. The first meeting is tonight (August 23) at 7:00.
